It is different from conventional web pages because readers can update the pages they are viewing. This holds the potential to be a powerful addition to the Bose Musicians Community Message Boards (the Forum), not replacing it, but providing another mechanism for supporting the community of owners who use the internet. \n\nThis page is for a high level introduction to the project. For implementation plans see L1\u2122 Wiki Site Plan\n\n===Discussion===\nPeople come to the Bose Musicians Forum for many reasons:\n\n*Looking for information \n*Share information \n*Community \n*Affiliation \n*Anonymity \n\nLet's talk about the first group of people. They may be content to browse through the forums or use a search engine. Others may want something written and presented in a more conventional (for the web) format. A Wiki can be a mechanism for sharing knowledge in a much more concise way than a discussion thread in a forum.\n\n===Quality of Information===\nBecause the content of a Wiki is contributed by its readers, there is no greater assurance that the what is written there is in any way better than in a forum. It is probably no worse. \n\n\n===Moderation===\nThere is no formal moderation queue. It is possible to have people create their pages in the Sandbox area. Then an administrator can migrate pages to the live collection of documents. This would be extremely cumbersome and runs afoul of the spirit of social software.\n\n===Implications===\n\nIf there is no moderation queue (giving the opportunity to review content before it is published) it is not possible to prevent undesirable content from being posted. It is likely that it would be seen and changed quickly by the readers. But that does not guarantee that it won't happen in the first place. \n\n===Bose\u00ae Musicians Community Message Boards===\nWe should consider how a Wiki will impact The Forum. \nWe are doing something similar already\nWe already have two \"Unofficial Guides\" that are open to input from our community. It is rare for someone to contribute directly. I think the community has developed the expectation that if anything 'good' turns up in the forum, that I will find a place for it in the Unofficial Guides. Sometimes a community member will post a message requesting that I add something to the Unofficial Guides. \n\nHaving a Wiki may encourage people to contribute more directly, but it may not. But having the Wiki should make it much easier to find knowledge because it has several ways through which information is linked and cross referenced. \n\n===Staying connected to the forum?===\nWe can do things like display content islands from the Forum like this:\n<html>\n<table>\n<tr><td valign=\"top\">\n<!-- online now -->\n<script language=\"JavaScript\" src=\"http://bose.infopop.cc/eve/forums?a=ci&amp;ci_id=3921072743&amp;s=8206048934\" type=\"text/javascript\"></script>\n</td>\n<td valign=\"top\">\n<!-- Recent Topics -->\n<script language=\"JavaScript\" type=\"text/javascript\" src=\"http://bose.infopop.cc/groupee/forums?a=ci&amp;ci_id=63810345&amp;s=8206048934\"></script>\n</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">\n<!--Popular Topics -->\n<script language=\"JavaScript\" type=\"text/javascript\" src=\"http://bose.infopop.cc/groupee/forums?a=ci&amp;ci_id=6481040301&amp;s=8206048934\"></script>\n</td>\n<td valign=\"top\">\n<!-- Newest Members -->\n<script language=\"JavaScript\" type=\"text/javascript\" src=\"http://bose.infopop.cc/groupee/forums?a=ci&amp;ci_id=7706048934&amp;s=8206048934\"></script>\n</td>\n</tr>\n<!--\n<tr><td valign=\"top\">\n<!-- Recent User Reviews -->\n<script language=\"JavaScript\" type=\"text/javascript\" src=\"http://bose.infopop.cc/groupee/forums?a=ci&amp;ci_id=9641072003&amp;s=8206048934\"></script>\n</td>\n<td>\n<script language=\"JavaScript\" type=\"text/javascript\" src=\"http://bose.infopop.cc/groupee/forums?a=ci&amp;ci_id=9031075823&amp;s=8206048934\"></script>\n</td></tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<script language=\"JavaScript\" type=\"text/javascript\" src=\"http://bose.infopop.cc/groupee/forums?a=ci&amp;ci_id=1671075823&amp;s=8206048934\"></script>\n</td><td></td></tr>\n-->\n</table>\n</html>\n\n==General Considerations==\n\n===Content Policy===\nSee [[Content Policy]]\n\n\n===How is a Wiki different (from a Forum)===\nCliff encouraged me to share this: [[How is a Wiki Different]]\n\n===Other Resources===\nOn occasion it will be appropriate to refer readers to Resources-Other for information that does not comform to the Content Policy\n\n===Official Terms===\nSee Official Terms\n\nCurrent Wiki Project\n\nI am updating, editing and migrating the Unofficial Users Guide to a wiki format.\nUnofficial Users Guide - Newest version \nUnofficial Users Guide - Newer converted from the forum \nUnofficial Users Guide - on the Bose Musicians Forum\nFutureProjects\nPagesReferencedByAuthor\n===Wiki Warning?===\nThis Wiki is not sponsored by Bose Corporation or the Bose Live Music Technology Group.
